About Us

Second Chance Strategies is a Kentucky-based nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing education, civic engagement, and policy advocacy for people impacted by incarceration and substance use disorder.

We believe that individuals with lived experience are not only capable of rebuilding their lives — they are uniquely positioned to lead change. Our work centers on creating pathways for justice-impacted people to grow as leaders, professionals, advocates, and community builders.

Founded in 2023, Second Chance Strategies was intentionally developed with care and purpose. Rather than rushing into programming, we focused on listening to directly impacted communities, understanding Kentucky’s unique landscape, and building a model rooted in ethical recovery, evidence-based solutions, and long-term impact.

Our approach bridges the gap between community and policy. We equip people with the tools, training, and support needed to successfully reintegrate, engage civically, and influence systems that shape recovery, justice, and opportunity. Through statewide education initiatives, leadership cohorts, and advocacy efforts, we work to reduce stigma, strengthen recovery ecosystems, and promote policies that reduce recidivism and address the root causes of substance use.

Second Chance Strategies exists to ensure that second chances don’t stop at survival — they lead to leadership, dignity, and meaningful participation in shaping our communities.
